Every mating is thought through from the pedigree, the health, the character, the breed standard and the way the two dogs complement each other.
Reading the whole dog
Selection comes down neither to a show title nor to a single test. It combines identification, parentage, the health results available, conformity to the breed standard, temperament and the observation of the offspring.
Understanding the cotation, from 1 to 6
In the official RACP grid, the cotation (the SCC breeding grade) runs from 1 to 6: the higher the figure, the higher the dog is graded, which means it has met a growing set of documented selection criteria. That figure does not, on its own, sum up everything a dog is worth, and it never guarantees the quality of a puppy.
Levels 2 to 4 take into account, among other things, depending on the level, LOF confirmation, genetic identification, the official hip reading, a temperament test or the CSAU, and show results. For cotation 4 “Recommandé”, screening for degenerative myelopathy is also part of the grid. Cotations 5 “Élite B” and 6 “Élite A” additionally take into account the officially recognised quality of the offspring and their genetic compatibility; to be Élite A, the dog must also be Recommandé itself.

Matings that are thought through
The pedigree is what shows us the bloodlines, the degrees of relatedness and the ways two dogs complement each other. The pedigree tree on this site is calculated from the parents recorded in the CMS: a piece of information is entered only once, and ancestors, offspring and siblings are then derived automatically.

LOF confirmation, hips A or B, a temperament test or the CSAU, an Excellent at a show and genetic identification on record.

The same basis, with an Excellent won at a leading show: a Nationale or Régionale d’élevage, a Spéciale de race or the Championnat de France.

Recommandé (SCC grade 4)
Hips A or B, screening for degenerative myelopathy, behaviour, stronger results under two different judges and genetic identification.

Élite B (SCC grade 5)
A LOF confirmed dog that has produced, in the first generation, 4 offspring graded 4 “Recommandé”: for a male, out of at least 2 brood bitches; for a female, in at least 2 litters. To this are added hips A or B, the degenerative myelopathy test (clear or carrier) and genetic compatibility with the offspring.

Élite A (SCC grade 6)
A dog itself graded 4 “Recommandé” that has produced, in the first generation, 4 offspring also graded 4: for a male, out of at least 2 brood bitches; for a female, in at least 2 litters. Genetic compatibility with the offspring must be on record.

This counter is recalculated at every publication. It counts only the public profiles with a hip reading recorded: A when every reading is A, B as soon as one reading reaches B. A reading beyond B is included in neither of these two counters.
